From managing high blood sugar levels to promoting weight loss, you’ve heard lots of good things about Moringa supplements. That’s what prompted you to get a bottle of Moringa powder that’s now sitting on your kitchen countertop. (If you haven’t, Zen Principle’s Organic Moringa Leaf Powder may be the supplement you’re looking for.)

Most likely, you’ve religiously added Moringa powder to your drinks and meals every single day. That makes you wonder, “How long does it take for Moringa to start working?”

Sure, Moringa is a superfood (check out our in-depth post on what the herb is good for). But that’s not to say it will transform your health and wellness overnight — its benefits do take a while to see, like most other dietary supplements.

We scanned the scientific literature for clinical studies (a mix of human- and animal-based models) to answer your most pressing question. Read on to find out more.

How Long Does It Take for Moringa To Lower Blood Pressure?

Expected time: Within 2 hours.

Those taking Moringa supplements to keep their blood pressure under control will be happy to hear that the herb works in as short as two hours.

Per a 2019 study in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, healthy participants that took 120 grams of cooked Moringa leaves showed significantly lower blood pressure levels two hours after their meal, even when they consumed a high-salt diet in the week leading up to the experiment.

How Long Does It Take for Moringa to Work on Arthritis?

Expected time: 3-4 weeks (based on animal models).

People seeking pain relief from arthritis will be relieved to hear it takes roughly three weeks for Moringa to work on this inflammatory condition.

In a 2018 study, scientists induced arthritis in rats and gave the test subjects an ethanol extract of Moringa leaves for 21 days. The results proved that the herb helps prevent the onset or deterioration of arthritis.

Meanwhile, a more recent 2021 study analyzed the effects of Moringa leaves and seed oil on rheumatoid arthritis in Wistar rats. At the end of 30 days, the researchers found that Moringa improved anti-inflammatory activity for this joint disease.

How Long Does It Take for Moringa To Start Working for High Blood Sugar Levels?

Expected time: A few hours to 3 months.

Diabetics looking for natural remedies to tackle high blood sugar levels may want to try Moringa supplements.

Human-based research indicates three months of Moringa leaf powder supplementation significantly reduced blood glucose levels in healthy post-menopausal women. Another small-scale study specifically used diabetic patients with healthy subjects as a control group. The findings revealed that Moringa supplementation significantly decreased blood glucose levels within 2-3 hours after eating.

How Quickly Does Moringa Increase Breast Milk Supply?

Expected time: A few days to a week.

Moringa for breast feeding

For nursing mothers struggling with a low breast milk supply, Moringa supplementation for a few days to a week may help.

According to a systematic review and meta-analysis covering five randomized controlled trials and over 300 breastfeeding participants, breast milk supply typically increased from days 4 to 7 following Moringa supplementation. The review also noted no side effects, unlike fenugreek, another commonly used galactagogue that promotes milk supply naturally.

How Long Does It Take for Moringa To Start Working for Erectile Dysfunction?

Expected time: A week (based on animal models).

Even though erectile dysfunction (impotence) isn’t openly discussed, it’s common among middle-aged men from 40 years and above. If you want to try natural alternatives to Viagra, Moringa is a good place to start for men.

In one study, rats were given a low dose of Moringa leaf extract for seven days, which improved their sexual performance. The researchers suggested that Moringa may be an aphrodisiac for humans, given that it elevated testosterone levels in the animal model. Exactly how long it will take to see results in humans would require further research.

How Quickly Does It Take for Moringa to Promote Weight Loss?

Expected time: 8 weeks.

If you’re using Moringa to boost your weight loss program, you’ll need to practice patience as it takes around eight weeks to see results.

In 2012, a group of scientists evaluated the weight-loss effects of a herbal supplement containing Moringa. Participants were divided into two groups — one who took the supplement for eight weeks and the other who did not. Both groups also restricted their calories to 2,000 per day and walked half an hour five times a week throughout the study duration.

The results showed that the herbal supplement group considerably reduced their body mass and body weight index (BMI) compared to the control group. The former also experienced other health benefits of Moringa, such as lower blood glucose and cholesterol levels.

How Long Does It Take for Moringa To Promote Hair Growth?

Expected time: 1 month (based on animal models).

Rat-based models have shown that Moringa can help promote hair growth, so long as you give it time.

One small-scale study, in particular, analyzed the hair growth-promoting effects of Moringa leaf extract at different concentrations of 1, 2, and 5%.

The researchers pitted Moringa against the well-known Minoxidil hair growth solution. They observed that the higher the Moringa concentration, the greater the hair growth activity. In fact, 5% Moringa leaf extract increased hair growth activity to a degree that surpassed Minoxidil after 30 days.

How Long Does It Take for Moringa To Help With Wrinkles?

Expected time: 3 months.

Aging is a non-negotiable part of life. But with Moringa, you may be able to delay the appearance of wrinkles and improve existing ones.

Researchers studied the skin-enhancing benefits of a facial cream infused with 3% Moringa leaf extract. Participants were tasked to apply the Moringa-based cream on one side of their faces and a non-Moringa-infused cream on the other for three months.

At the end of the study, the participants noticed smoother skin and less visible wrinkles on the side of their faces that were treated with the Moringa cream.

How Long Does It Take for Moringa To Start Working for Anxiety and Depression?

Expected time: 30 minutes to 2 weeks (based on animal models).

Moringa for anxiety and depression

Recent scientific data highlighted the enormity of mental health deterioration as a result of the pandemic. Post-COVID, anxiety cases increased by 25.6%, accounting for an additional 76.2 million worldwide. Depression isn’t to be outdone either; statistics indicated a 27.6% spike which translates to 53.2 million additional cases globally.

If you’re part of these figures, science suggests Moringa supplements as a natural add-on to antidepressants and anxiolytics (anxiety-reducing drugs).

A 2020 study used adult Swiss mice to test the anxiety-reducing effects of Moringa alone and Moringa with Diazepam (a commonly used anxiolytic). The researchers discovered that a blend of Moringa and Diazepam was “more calming" than using the herb or the drug on its own after 30 minutes.

Another study examined the effectiveness of Moringa supplementation with and without the antidepressant drug fluoxetine. After two weeks, the results showed that combining Moringa with fluoxetine led to greater antidepressant activity than Moringa alone.

With Moringa, It’s All About Giving It Time

As you can see from the clinical trials done on humans and animals, Moringa does work for numerous health and dermatological conditions. The only thing you have to do is give it time.

Depending on which condition you’re taking Moringa for, it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few months to see results. Keep in mind that some of the estimations we’ve shared are based on animal studies. In which case, use these projections with a pinch of salt until human-based trials are conducted for accuracy.

Even research studies involving human participants aren’t definitive on how long it takes for Moringa to start working for you. Other factors like your body weight, the severity of your symptoms, and your lifestyle can quicken or prolong the time taken to witness improvements.

If you’d like to give Moringa a chance to enhance your overall health and wellness, try Zen Principle’s Organic Moringa Leaf Powder. Organically grown and sustainably sourced, our Moringa powder is premium-grade to help you reach your health and beauty goals.

Hi Jacob,

Moringa contains antioxidants thus there are multiple studies suggesting its use in helping protect our liver which is the primary target of the hepatitis virus.

Some studies also suggest the antiviral properties of Moringa which could help with hepatitis.

But it would still be advisable to consult with your doctor when adding Moringa supplements to any treatment plans as they would best know a patients actual condition.

I hope this helps.
